Sacral Musings

Does anybody know if this is a good book? Has anybody read it? I heard about a few books...
1.) contributions of thought - sutherland
2.) life in motion - becker
3.) the stillness of life - becker
4.) cranial bowl - sutherland
Which one is the best to start with? And is there a possibility to buy them used? I have not found one used in the net.

Well, perhaps you could buy all of them, if yo have a spare couple thoursand pounds! I've just looked on the web and they're bloody expansive. I heard Rollin Becker is supposed to be good. I have not heard about Sutherland's. You can get them on amazon.co.uk, new or used. Good luck!

Yeah, sure I will buy them all ... ;-) sometime, but look here one book 55 Euro. Thats ok every other book I buy in german language costs more than that. So not on amazon....Thanks for your gook wishes ...I think searching them used is hopeless.

I haven't read any of these books yet. Some of the older ones are very expensive.. luckily the BSO has a fantastic library!

Some older (out of copyright) books are available for free online. Much of AT Stills work has been
made available by Steve Paulus DO at http://www.interlinea.org/atstill.html

Maybe this article about the Cranial Bowl from the JAOA website helps

Thank you for the links. You really have great luck....I have never seen one of these books in our library....( I´m a little bit jealous ;-)) ...our library is too small.

What books do you use for cranial techniques?

Reply to This

Me, I've never used any books for cranial - lessons were enough! :-)
But if I remember right, some of my friends used Chiatow. ?
I say, the best book is your hands! But i guess that's the least helpful comment for an exam ;-)

Yeah great comment...I hear it "sometimes" ;-) Chiatow...is it english or french? The best one would be a french one translated into german or english.

Cranial Manipulation Theory and Practice, Leon Chaitow (sorry for the spelling I'm a bit dislecsic (however you spell that word!)).

You can see extracts of the book at this page:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=LU0uv9Te1EwC&dq=cranial+mani...

He seems to write more than just about cranial though... But Chaitow is a name that i've heard quite a bit throughout the 3rd year, from tutors, teachers and students.

Why do you want a cranial book? What do you expect to get from it? (he asks out of curiosity).

Thank you for the booklink. I think I expect quite nothing from a cranial book ....so I don´t think I will read it and after that I can do everything. Perhaps only something I can read after the lessons. I have to arrange my ideas ;-) and arrange the things I wrote down during the lessons.
So first I´m interested in the philosophy behind cranial techniques...because of that I asked if anybody read contributions of thought. And now I know nobody read it, so I have to ask what you read than. And now I hear you read nothing ;-)))

The only osteopathic book that I've bought (and read!) is "Osteopathy: Models for Diagnosis, Treatment and Practice by Jon Parsons and Nicholas Marcer". He is an ESO graduate, tutor, and teacher and it recaps all the techniques, approaches, philosophy nicely. Its a relatively simple book.
