Sacral Musings

I finally got Netter today, it's such a good book and I think you could pretty much learn all your anatomy just from that book the drawings are so good! My diagrams are something I really need to work on because I like to draw lots of them in exams but where as last year I practiced a load I've hardly done any this year, it's something I'm going to include in my PDP as drawing something really shows that you know the structure!

I had a really good day of study today 10 till 6 with only about 2 hours off all day then a Manus talk at the end! Manus was good a talk by a Radiologist which was interesting and there were some good points but a lot of the things he was using MRI and the like for are things that I would hope to be able to diagnose without the need.

I have started doing some work towards the FD open book exam as this Friday we decided to all bring in all our notes and talk about the sort of things we should include so want to feel prepared for it! Spent about 4 hours today putting together some notes on muscle and protein and want to go into the exam really knowing the stuff!

I bought Netter from Amazon last week (atlas and anatomy cards) and am looking forward to its arrival. The pictures are the best I have found too. My plan is to start tracing some of the pictures into notes.. my drawing is rubbish.

I find the Netter flashcards really useful. The illustrations are good (although I prefer the illustrations in Gray's for Students) and they have all the relevant details - muscles origin, insertion, nerve, action etc, and general comments. The Grays for Students flashcards don't have enough detail for my liking.

With regards to anatomy books, I think Thieme is excellent. Very clear, amazing illustrations, detailed text.

I find the Netter atlas really great. I have the first edition as a student version. I like the painted illustrations. In German there ist another good anatomy book / atlas called `Prometheus` (Thieme, too.) I don´t know if there exists an english version. It´s a combination....real good pictures with anatomy texts. All in one.
