Hi everyone.

Trained at the ESO (UK) and am looking forward to starting practicing osteopathy in Whangarei January 2012.

Until soon!

Jean-Philippe.

Thanks for your perspective Martin

I was at the open skies meeting held in Wellington last Sept to discuss scope and I will be making the long journey out to Wellington for the one this November. I agree that all Governments are looking at the bottom line because within 10 years with our aging populations as the American Osteopathic Association put it in Sydney health and social costs will equal our gross domestic product in other words consume all we earn.

It is a rapidly evolving process which has a global impact on the osteopathic brand. (so to speak)

Hiya Melvin,
The scope of practice review being undertaken by the OCNZ has been underway for a couple of years now - I think it may be driven in part by our healthcare/payment situation here in NZ as well, as we have the status of 'Allied Healthcare Professional' in NZ as opposed to CAM practitioner. Our new (well, 2 yrs) conservative government has also been looking carefully at potential cost saving measures in the field of ACC, our national accident insurance scheme, so all houses must be in order, so to speak.
It's an evolving process and one which will be undertaken in Europe and Australia soon, I suspect.

There is shortly a New Zealand Osteopathic Scope of
Practice Reform doucment to be published by the OCNZ, which is far reaching this will be followed by an OCNZ scope day in november.

It seems that the discussion on osteopathic
scope of practice is more advanced in New Zealand than the UK which is considering the European framework just published

Any thoughts?

I hope you don't mind me joining even though I'm not in NZ. My brother lives out there with his family and it's a possible place for me to go set up in once qualified :) Spent a year out there before I started my course - beautiful place
