Wondering what people think on this subject and what has been found in terms of research?

Have you checked out the discussion The Facilitated Segment–Fact or Fiction?......

that has been running since last August? It covers just this very material. Why don't you give your own opinion, and tell us if you reckon the FS is just a physiological mirage or something more tangible and clinically valid?

The most recent exploration in an international forum was recently published in a quality textbook based on on work by the top basic science researchers and clinical researchers in the area of Manual Therapy and Manual Medicine (MT/MM).  It was based upon the international, interdiscipinary research symposium presented in Texas March 31-Apr 1, 2008 entitled, "Delineating the Evidence Base for Somato-Visceral Interactions and Autonomic Mechanisms of Manual Therapy." (Part of the Osteopathic Collaborative Clinical Trials Initiatives Conference (OCCTIC) series).

The text is: King HH, Wilfrid Janig W, Patterson MM (eds).  The Science and Clinical Application of Manual Therapy. Edinburgh ; New York : Churchill Livingstone/Elsevier, 2011.   (http://bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/jsp/id/The_Science_and_Clinical_App... )

Also, still-relevant texts/articles of interest from the research perspective are:

A S Nicholas, D A DeBias, W Ehrenfeuchter, K M England, R W England, C H Greene, D Heilig, and M Kirschbaum. A somatic component to myocardial infarction. Br Med J (Clin Res Ed). 1985 July 6; 291(6487): 13–17.

Thanks Dr Mike! Those are some very useful resources you have shared. Another muser, Hume O'Rous reviewed The Science and Clinical Application of Manual Therapy and concluded " If you only purchase one textbook this year, it would probably have to be this one." High praise.

Thanks for the suggestions and great list :) Only one I haven't as yet encountered. I will check it out.
